James had his earliest volunteer experiences as a high schooler in the Philippines, delivering Christmas gifts to Vietnamese refugee camps and visiting infrastructure development sites as a USAID intern. During college, he served two years as volunteer missionary, and as a young lawyer he provided pro bono support to juveniles via Utah’s guardian ad litem office. James is currently volunteering as an online English tutor for Ukrainian lawyers, and lends a hand with “The Ocean the Connects Us,” an international sustainability initiative for high school students.
Most recently James has been on location with “Dare to Dream Philippines” and their inspiring programs on Guimaras Island. In addition to bringing 50 kilos worth of books and school supplies for the Dare to Dream-sponsored library at XXX, James also participated in the home replacement project for the Xxx family. James deftly wielded a machete for trimming bamboo, assisted in demolition activities, led cleanup efforts, and provided a large dose of moral support. “It was highly gratifying to see Nora and Brad in action, not just coming up with humanitarian ideas, but working tirelessly to execute on those ideas to improve people’s lives. I was on the ground in Guimaras and witnessed a brilliantly designed home being built quickly and at low cost, utilizing many locally-sourced materials. I’m looking forward to participating in many more projects with the foundation. “
