Jeffrey Stuart Tolk was born on September 10, 1963, in New York City to Marilyn and Norman Tolk. As a child, his curiosity and optimism were evident—he often declared, “This is a good day, Mom!” That spirit defined his life. He was intelligent, kind, humble, hardworking, and deeply devoted to his family.
Jeffrey attended Mendham High School in New Jersey, excelling in academics, track, and music. He was accepted to Harvard, where he studied physics before shifting to English, studying poetry under Nobel laureate Seamus Heaney. After Harvard, he attended law school, where he argued before Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy in a moot court competition.
He began his career as a corporate litigator in New York before transitioning to finance, eventually working in Hong Kong and Singapore. He played a key role in shaping the credit derivatives market and later became an angel investor in Utah. Despite his professional success, his greatest passion was his family. He and his wife, Astrid, met at Harvard and married in 1988. Together, they raised three children, with Jeffrey reading all 18 books of The Lord of the Rings, Narnia, and Harry Potter to each of them.
Diagnosed with Parkinson’s in 2016, Jeffrey responded by embracing adventure. He ran marathons worldwide and climbed mountains, summiting Kilimanjaro, Whitney, and Mera Peak. His final climb, Mt. Cotopaxi in Ecuador, ended tragically, but he passed doing what he loved—pushing limits and living fully.
Jeffrey is survived by his wife, children, father, and siblings. He was a man of quiet strength, deep love, and unwavering kindness. His legacy lives on in the many lives he touched.
